Family Fun Center OpensCommunity Minded and Family Oriented EntertainmentJan. 1, 2001 -- The Dell Rapids Family Fun Center has opened it's doors to the public this week with arcade games and entertainments for the whole family. The Family Fun Center is a community minded project of the Dell Rapids Community Technology Center, sponsored by local businesses in affiliation with organizations like the Dell Morning Optimist Club. Doug Chamley, President of the Optimist Club, father of 5 children and local business owner started both the Family Fun Center and the Community Technology Center for public use with the intent of strengthening the family and encouraging youth towards productive use of their time. The Dell Rapids Optimist Club sponsors several events for the youth every year. Those events range from dances, athletic competitions, scholarships, pinewood derby races and more. The benefits from all their fundraising goes towards the scholarships and youth events. The motto of an Optimist is "Friend of Youth". Our Grand Opening was January 20th and we had a great turnout for the day. KDLT TV covered the grand opening ceremonies and the Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting indoors. Kids and parents enjoyed riding the "Rapid River", battling the Dinosaurs in "Jurassic Park" and driving race cars in the "Daytona 500". Tickets can now be redeemed for prizes and tokens from the "Skee-Ball and other ticket winning games. The Family Fun Center is open 7 days a week and is located at 412 E. 4th Street, in downtown Dell Rapids.
