Family Fun Center Closes

Lack of Business forces closure of Fun Center

6-1-2001 -- "We thought the interest of the community was directed more with it's own businesses and economic development."

This was the the overtone of comments made by the owners of the Family Fun Center after several months of monetary losses in developing the Family Fun Center in Dell Rapids. Daily costs of keeping the Fun Center, and lack of substantial business traffic forced the owners to make a decision to close the arcade after being open only 6 months.

"When the kids are not able to come and the parents are not utilizing the resources available here in town, businesses suffer and close. We thought we provided everything they had been asking for and giving the kids a place to go for good clean fun, rather than drifting around town and happening upon trouble." quoted Mr. Chamley from a rather disheartened look back at a potentially good outlet for the children of Dell Rapids.

When asked if the Fun Center would reopen later the answer was " No, we feel that the close proximity of Sioux Falls and the tendency of the parents and kids to go there for entertainment overwhelms the home-town interest of the Fun Center or any similar entertainment centers long term success."

The Fun Center will be looking for a potential home for the arcade games.
