New Classes Begin

Tech Center Offers New Class Structure

01-01-2002 -- "More and more seniors are wanting to learn how to utilize the Internet and Email."

A steady stream of Senior Citizens and adults are requesting instruction on Microsoft Internet Explorer and Outlook Express as well as the Microsoft Operating Systems which are rapidly emerging. Technology changes are challenging computer enthusiasts to learn software applications designed to utilize the new hardware capabilities of the Gigahertz generations.

"It's just very difficult to keep up with all the software changes. In order to learn the new programs or upgrades to the older programs, an individual needs some help. Help comes either from on-line training, self-motivated books or classroom instruction. The Tech Center offers the best of all three." quoted Mr. Chamley. "We have found that most individuals learn best when they have someone to show them how and then review the information later at home. This requires an instruction book and some hands-on practice through their computer applications and resources from the internet."

When asked why there has been an increase of seniors Chamley answered " Nobody wants to feel left out of the picture and Seniors are more likely to have been left in the dust of technology progress. Children, grandchildren and distant relatives create a real need for Seniors to want the ability to communicate through computer technology and learn how to interface with their technology minded peers."

The Technology Center has expanded their training hours and added more classes for students to take advantage of. Plans include utilizing a resource of materials from the SeniorNet Organization. They are researching the details for becoming an authorized SeniorNet Training Center in the near future.
