Tech Center partners with SeniorNet for Training

8-1-2002 -- The Dell Rapids Community Technology Center became a satellite training site for the Sioux Falls Center for Active Generations SeniorNet location. When asking Mr. Chamley, Tech Center Director, what this would mean for the community, he responded with, "The SeniorNet Training courses offer better resources and higher quality training for the 50 year and over crowd."

SeniorNet is a nationally organized institution designed specifically to meet the needs of the Senior Citizen. SeniorNet is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of computer-using adults, age 50 and older. SeniorNet's mission is to provide older adults education for and access to computer technologies to enhance their lives and enable them to share their knowledge and wisdom.

SeniorNet members learn and teach others to use computers and communications technologies to accomplish a variety of tasks. They learn to desktop publish anything from a newsletter to an autobiography, manage personal and financial records, communicate with others across the country and the world and serve their communities. SeniorNet members share a desire to continue learning and a willingness to contribute their knowledge to others.

A national, nonprofit organization based in San Francisco, SeniorNet is funded by membership dues, Learning Center fees, the altruistic donations of individuals and the generous sponsorship of many companies and foundations.

Courses offered at the Sioux Falls, Dell Rapids and Parker Locations include Computer Fundamentals, Internet & Email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works Suite, Microsoft Windows, Quicken, Family Tree Genealogy and Publishing and Electronic Photography skills. Classes are low-cost and generally offer 16 hours or more classroom instruction. A membership to SeniorNet is required for participation.
